FACIAL PROCEDURES
Some of the most visible signs of aging first appear on the face. Although the changes appear gradually, there may come a day when you look in the mirror and decide that the face you see doesn't reflect the way you feel about yourself. If you would like to look as good as you feel, facial rejuvenation can help. Dr. Millard performs a variety of both surgical and non-surgical procedures to help decrease the signs of aging on the face.

Facelift - (Rhytidectomy)
Over time, the long-term effects of gravity, exposure to sun, dry air, and general stress takes its toll on an individual's face and neckline. Jowls can develop under the jawline with folds and fat deposits. Sometimes creases begin to form between the nose and the mouth.
A facelift can considerably reduce these signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening the underlying muscles, and redraping the skin around the neck and face. Facelifts can be done alone, or frequently performed in conjunction with another procedure such as a browlift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping. If your problem areas are limited to the neck, a more conservative procedure, known as a "necklift" will be recommended. In some cases, a facelift can reduce the outward signs of aging by ten or fifteen years.
Eyelid Surgery - (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is designed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. The procedure can correct drooping upper lids that tend to sag with time and the puffy bags below the eyes. The procedure usually takes about 1 hour and can be performed in the office using local anesthesia. Stitches can be removed after three or four days. Blepharoplasty can be done as a single procedure, or in conjunction with other facial surgery such as a facelift or a browlift.
Injectable Fillers
- Botox Some wrinkles are the result of overactive muscles. A popular treatment for this is Botox. Botox (a controlled toxin) is a paralyzing agent injected directly into the muscles to reduce muscle activity. Common places to inject include the horizontal forehead furrows, vertical lines between the eyebrows and "crow's feet" around the eyes. Botox is temporary (3-4 months). It is an office-based procedure that does not require anesthesia and has little to no downtime. Fat injection (also called autologous fat transplantation) Fat taken from your own body is used as a soft tissue filler material. Since it is taken from your own body there is little possibility of an allergic reaction. Fat is taken from areas such as your abdomen, buttocks, or thighs using a small needle attached to a syringe. This is an in-office procedure, where the fat is injected in multiple thin strands into the treatment area. It is the belief that autologous fat injections may be long lasting or even permanent. Keep in mind; your body will absorb some of the fat and therefore repeated injections of stored fat may be needed for optimal results.
- Restylane Restylane is approved for the treatment of fine lines around the mouth and lips, smile lines, marionette lines and frown lines. Restylane can also be used to fill out depressed areas beneath the lower eyelids. Restylane is one of several new injectables made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is produced by the body and naturally absorbed over time. Cosmetic surgery patients in Lone Tree can expect Restylane injections to last for approximately 4-8 months, after which time periodic sessions will be required to maintain the effects of the treatment. Restylane treatments can cause significantly more discomfort than BOTOX® injections. Dr. Millard has found that local anesthesia placed in the treatment areas prior to placing Restylane has dramatically improved patient comfort during the procedure. Dr. Millard recommends that patients ice the treated area after the injections, and allow 1-3 days for bruising, redness and discomfort to subside.
- Sculptra™ Sculptra™ is one of the most promising and long-lasting new injectable fillers being introduced to the market. Sculptra™ works by filling in deep lines and wrinkles around the face, as well as sunken or depressed areas beneath the eyes and in the cheeks. Sculptra™ is composed of a synthetic lactic acid material that can potentially last for up to 18 months . Sculptra™ was originally approved in Europe for the correction of skin depression, and Dr. Millard is now exploring its application at his cosmetic surgery practice.
