Is a breast lift right for me?

A breast lift can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal. If your breasts are small or have lost volume, breast implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase both the size and firmness of your breasts.

The procedure is most commonly performed on women who are looking to regain tightness in their breasts post-pregnancy. Nursing children can leave a woman’s breast stretched and sagging. A breast lift is a wonderful way for a woman to regain her pre-pregnancy form. However, it is important to understand that if you are considering having more children, then it’s best to postpone surgery, as it is likely the pregnancy will stretch your breasts out again and offset the results of your operation.

In general, the best candidates for mastopexy are healthy women who are realistic about what the surgery can accomplish. It is not going to give you larger breasts. But if you suffer from complaints such as:

• One breast being lower than the other
• Nipples positioned below your breast curve
• Nipples that point more downward than straight out
• Breasts that are elongated or flat

While there are several techniques to perform a breast lift, none work as effectively as the Smartlipo ™ Hi Def and VASER® Hi Def procedures. To perform either a Smartlipo ™ Hi Def and VASER ® Hi Def breast lift, Dr. Millard heats and stimulates the skin so that it contracts and pulls taught, much like it was in the days of your youth. Your new breast position is higher because the breast tissue is tighter.

In the weeks following your procedure, a thin webbing of scar tissue will develop just below the skin to help lift your breast tissue, resulting in younger, firmer breasts, and virtually no scarring whatsoever.

Other Breast Lift Alternatives

If either the Smartlipo ™ Hi Def and VASER ® Hi Def procedure is not an option for you, breast lifts can be performed using smart liposuction or, traditionally, a minimally invasive surgery. During traditional breast lift surgery, Dr. Millard makes a small incision around the areola, lifting the underlying breast tissue and reshaping your breasts to improve contour and firmness. The procedure itself is extremely safe, but it should be noted that the results are not permanent. While the procedure will delay the process, gravity will eventually regain control years down the road, where you will once again be faced with a cosmetic decision.

Breast lifts are also a surgical option performed for people who wish to reduce the size of their areolas, or the darker skin surrounding the nipple, and reposition it to a natural, more youthful size and height.
